kbspace: nord micro modular

Latest update: 5/4/09

Welcome to the kbspace Nord synth page. I own a Clavia Nord Micro Modular, and am really pleased and impressed by its flexibility and suitability for use with my WX7 Wind Controller. Especially how it fits into my WX7 case. :-)

Actually, if it were ten times the size, it would still be an awesome wind-synth module. In the '60's this synth would have taken up a whole room.... so what else is new.

MP3 SOUND SAMPLES

The routing for these recordings is:
WX7 -> Nord Micro -> Mackie mixer -> Lexicon MPX100 reverb -> Soundblaster Live card
On the steel drum sample, I overdubbed using Quartz Audio multitrack, demo version. The files were recorded using Sound Forge, then converted to mp3 format with CannAmp, 160 kbps, stereo. I used no extra realtime continuous controllers beyond breath and pitchbend. I did all the patch programming and playing.

"Oberheim.mp3" EWI-Oberheim-Brecker type of sound. Note the extremely smooth pitch bend and volume control, and rapid response to flutter-tonguing.
"Chords.mp3" Random chord shifting, NOT overdubbed. This is one voice on the Nord Micro with many oscillators.
"Feedback.mp3" feedback chaos simulation. Sounds a little like the Dave Smith Evolver!! :-)
"Steel Drum.mp3" 2 parts overdubbed. The sustain-roll effect was done by double-tonguing.
"Odyssey.mp3" a little space music using 12 slightly detuned sine oscillators.
"Morf Bari Sax.mp3" Imagine a bari sax, playing a mournful ballad, that is changing its resonant characteristics before your very eyes! Well, just click on the link, you don't have to imagine anymore.
